Laser cutting of PVC-free textiles for digital printing

Heytex Bramsche GmbH is one of the world's leading manufacturers of high-quality, functionalised technical textiles. With the HEYsign product line, a special polyester-based textile has been developed for the printing industry.

Areas of application for HEYsign textiles


HEYsign textiles guarantee excellent printing results. They are PVC-free and are used, among other things, for interiors in object and trade fair construction, as a banner or display at the POS or for wall coverings. In the short term, they also convince with impressive printing results outdoors.

The following HEYsign product groups are available to suit the different areas of application:

frontlit: Flame retardant, polyester fabric for large format advertising banners, roll-ups, billboards and exhibition stand design.

backlit: Highly tanslucent, flame retardant polyester fabric for large format, backlit advertising banners, light boxes and displays at the POS.

blockout: Opaque polyester fabric with black or white backing. It is ideal for trade fair and stage construction or wall coverings.

ecotex® mesh B1 and frontlit B1: Environmentally friendly, flame retardant, very light textiles with high tear resistance. The resource-saving textiles are ideal for print messages on billboards, in POS and for frontages.

Aim of the laser test:


eurolaser has tested different variants of HEYsign textiles in the application centre with regard to their properties during laser processing. In consultation with Heytex, the following requirements were taken into account in the test:

  • Precise, contour-accurate cutting
  • Processing directly from the textile roll
  • Lint- and residue-free cut edges
  • Distortion-free cutting, especially with elastic material
  • Cutting of large formats
  • Sealed cutting edges for easy further processing

The conveyor system serves both as a material carrier for
the machining process and as a transport element.

Recommended laser power: 60 watts
The laser power depends on both the material and
the processing speed and is an average guide value here.

Test result:


All tested textiles from the HEYsign product line achieved perfect cutting results. We therefore award all materials in the test the rating of excellent for laser cutting.

Our 3XL-3200 laser system met all test requirements. The cut edges are lint- and fringe-free as well as fused. The laser cuts even very filigree details absolutely precisely and through the camera system also exactly along the print contours. Depending on the system size, large-format cuts are also possible. The laser scores particularly well with its contact-free cutting. This means that the cut quality remains continuously high, as the tool does not become blunt. Tool changes and downtimes are eliminated.
