Laser test: PLEXIGLAS® Resist

Laser cutting and engraving of impact-resistant acrylic glass

Material

PLEXIGLAS® Resist combines the excellent properties of PLEXIGLAS® with the robustness of polycarbonate. The Resist 45, 65, 75 and 100 variants offer different levels of impact resistance. For many applications, Resist 45 with three times the break resistance compared to conventional XT is already sufficient. The material is used, among other things, in protective glazing, illuminated advertising, shopfitting and the transport sector.

Test setup

Processing was carried out on a cutting system of the XL-1600 type with a 400 W CO₂ laser source. The four variants Resist 45, 65, 75 and 100 were tested – both in laser cutting and laser engraving. The application tests took into account requirements for cutting precision, edge quality and visual appearance.

Result

All PLEXIGLAS® Resist types proved to be excellently suited. The cut edges were smooth and crystal-clear, with no visible discolouration. Engravings were sharp and clearly legible. The high dimensional accuracy, even with the finest details, was particularly impressive. The results remained consistent across all material thicknesses.

Advantages

Crystal-clear, clean cut edges without post-processing.

High impact resistance combined with excellent optical quality.

Engraving and cutting in a single process.

Comparable break resistance to polycarbonate, but easier to process.

Suitable for demanding indoor and outdoor applications.

Laser test: PLEXIGLAS® proTerra

Laser cutting of sustainable acrylic glass

Material

PLEXIGLAS® proTerra is a sustainable acrylic glass with a recycling content of at least 90%. It offers the same properties as classic PLEXIGLAS®: high transparency, UV resistance, weather resistance and a refined, crystal-clear surface. Typical applications include high-quality displays, luminaires, advertising signs and furniture.

Test setup

The test was carried out on a eurolaser XL-1600 with a 400 W CO₂ laser. The specially developed raster table system (RP) designed for acrylic was used, which minimises reflections and promotes perfect cut edges. The objective was a clean, burr-free cut across varying material thicknesses, typical for applications in the advertising and furniture manufacturing sectors.

Result

Our extensive processing tests have shown that PLEXIGLAS® proTerra can be processed just as well as other acrylic variants. The material can be both cut and engraved. The processing parameters are identical to those of extruded PMMA. PLEXIGLAS® proTerra is therefore a more environmentally friendly alternative to conventional PLEXIGLAS®, without compromising on quality and offering the same processing characteristics.

Advantages

Crystal-clear, polished cut edges.

No post-processing required.

Maximum precision, even for fine details.

Contact-free, stress-free cutting.

Flexibly combinable with a routing module.
