Questions about laser cutting wood-based materials
The more homogeneous the wood structures are, the more suitable the wood is for laser cutting and laser engraving. Due to the thermal laser process, properties such as material moisture, density, oil and resin content also influence the quality and speed of laser cutting. When processing wood-based materials, laser cutting results in a slight to strong oxidation cut edge. This means that dark colouring cannot be avoided. This often depends heavily on the choice of wood and the water and resin content. As a basic rule, the drier and more resin-free the material, the lighter the cut edge.
Yes, eurolaser machines can cut wood up to 30 mm thick with precision. Thicker panels can also be cut if the wood is of low density, such as balsa wood.
Yes, eurolaser's CO₂ laser machines can be used to create vector, image and relief engravings in high resolution. This results in fine details, clean contours and a precise engraving image without tool wear or dust formation.
Thanks to the large working areas of up to 10 m², even large-format engravings on wood, MDF or plywood can be realised – ideal for furniture parts, interior design, decorations or advertising applications.
Wood-based materials are known under the following material terms
Natural wood, softwood, hardwood, solid wood, wood-based materials, bamboo, balsa wood, mahogany, lime, beech, poplar, birch, maple, Douglas fir, spruce, pine, fir, red beech, oak, ash, cherry, walnut, abachi, padauk, teak, veneer, plywood, laminated wood, MDF, multiplex
