Winkler GmbH

How Winkler modernised production sustainably

In 2004, the family-owned company Winkler converted manual cutting in filter production to laser processing. Previously, technical textiles were cut by hand using knives and scissors, and the cut edges were subsequently sealed with a hot copper plate or an open flame. Today, these processes are automated using laser cutters from eurolaser – precise, efficient and reliable in operation.

Winkler GmbH, Germany

Innovative filtration technology for industry

Winkler GmbH is a specialised manufacturer of industrial filtration solutions. The medium-sized company develops and produces high-quality filter components for a wide range of applications in industry and environmental technology. The focus is on customised textile solutions that are precisely tailored to the respective process requirements.

What exactly is produced?

Technical textiles and filter materials

Winkler produces, among other things, filter bags, filter fabrics, filter fleeces, anode bags and customised textile cut parts for industrial filtration processes. A wide range of technical textiles and special fabrics are processed – often in different material thicknesses and with high requirements for dimensional accuracy and repeatability. In addition to series products, individually manufactured special solutions play a central role.

Challenge faced by Winkler GmbH

Automate processes and reduce error rates

Production at Winkler GmbH had long been characterised by manual work steps. From cutting the technical textiles to further processing into a ready-to-use filter, several processing stages were required, which were time-consuming and prone to errors.

In particular, the manual processing of the cut edges required additional effort, as they had to be sewn or fused. The aim was therefore to automate the processes, reduce the error rate and at the same time ensure consistently high quality – even with the wide range of different materials.

The L-1200 was the best investment we could have made at the time and is the heart of our production. We are convinced by the eurolaser systems. When it comes to quality in particular, the Zünd motion system is simply unrivalled. The high repeatability is a real advantage, and without laser technology our production would no longer be possible in this form. Manual cutting would mean a tremendous amount of additional effort. For us, there is no alternative to the laser.

eurolaser solution: L-1200 with Conveyor System

Automation for reduced workload

eurolaser implemented a comprehensive solution for the automated processing of technical textiles with the L-1200 laser cutting machine Conveyor System. Materials are processed directly from the roll and cut with high precision.

The laser works quickly and with high repeatability, ensuring identical parts every time. At the same time, the cut edges are sealed in the same process step, eliminating the need for sewing and keeping the filters flat without thickened edges.

The contact-free cutting process prevents material distortion and significantly reduces faulty cut parts. Both large and small production runs can be produced economically without retooling.
