Material

RENOLIT GORCELL is a lightweight sandwich material with a hexagonal honeycomb structure made of thermoplastic plastic. The face layers can vary depending on the application. The material is moisture-resistant, dimensionally stable, chemically resistant and fully recyclable. Typical areas of application include caravan construction, the furniture industry, outdoor furniture and lightweight structures.


Test setup

The laser test was carried out on a eurolaser XL-1600 cutting system with a 400 W CO₂ laser. Various RENOLIT GORCELL variants were used, including PP-F (5 mm and 10 mm), HI (10 mm) and WS A (10 mm, 15 mm, 20 mm). The objective was a precise, burr-free cut without deformation or dents, particularly at corners and edges.

Result

Excellent cutting results were achieved up to a material thickness of 15 mm. The edges were clean and smooth, without burn residues or surface damage. Only two variants showed a slight, wipeable burn film on the underside from 15 mm onwards. Overall, laser cutting demonstrated consistently high quality with precise contour accuracy.
