Laser cutting of filter mats for air purification

Material

The tested filter mats from RAASCH Luftfilter are used for fine and coarse dust filtration in air conditioning and ventilation systems. They are characterised by high dust holding capacity, long service life and low pressure drop. As a cost-effective solution for large air volumes, they meet above-average cleanliness requirements – ideal for offices, public buildings, factories and industrial facilities.

Test setup

The tests were carried out on a eurolaser L-1200 laser cutting machine with a 400 W CO₂ laser and an integrated Conveyor System for automated roll processing. The objective was to achieve tear-resistant, directly sealed cutting edges without scorch marks or discolouration. Intricate contours were also to be cut without distortion. Optional: use of marking modules for product identification.

Result

The RAASCH filter materials were cut without distortion, cleanly and without the need for reworking. No scorch marks or discolouration occurred. Automated roll processing via feeder and Conveyor System enabled a consistently efficient workflow. All requirements were met – laser cutting proved to be the optimal solution for this application.

Advantages

Directly sealed, tear-resistant cutting edges

Clean processing without scorch marks on the material

Distortion-free cutting, even for intricate contours

Automated processing directly from the roll

Optional: application of sewing marks
