Further information on the cooperation with eurolaser
eurolaser tested the following materials from PVF Mesh & Screen Technology on the laser cutting machines:
Laser test: PPS fabric – type: 0113, 0358, 766/597
Laser cutting of high-performance fabrics made of polyphenylene sulfide (PPS)
Material
The PPS high-performance fabric from PVF Mesh & Screen Technology is designed for extreme industrial requirements. It offers high resistance to heat, chemicals and mechanical stress – temperature-stable up to 195 °C in continuous operation and flame-retardant. Typical areas of application include aerospace, the automotive industry as well as chemical and pharmaceutical engineering. Ideal wherever stability and durability are required.
Test setup
The PPS fabric was tested on an L-1200 laser cutting machine with 60 W laser power and a Conveyor System. The aim was to evaluate laser cutting as an alternative to knife processing. Particular focus was placed on high edge quality, distortion-free cutting and suitability for intricate contours without scorch marks.
Results
Three PPS variants were tested. The thin material PPS 0113 achieved excellently suitable cutting quality, while the thicker variants PPS 776/597 and PPS 0358 were rated as very well suited. The cut edges were clean and distortion-free, and free of scorch marks on thin material. Slight edge discolouration occurred on thicker fabrics but did not impair functionality.
Advantages
The small diameter of the laser beam allows the finest internal contours.
Smooth, fused cut edges without post-processing.
Laser cutting without overcuts at changes of direction.
Laser cutting with the highest precision for intricate contours.
Automated processing directly from the roll.
