Laser cutting of microfilament textiles


Material

Evolon® is an innovative microfilament textile from Freudenberg Performance Materials. It combines the strength of a woven fabric with the softness of a nonwoven and is breathable, absorbent, quick-drying and dimensionally stable. Typical applications include allergy-friendly bedding, cleaning cloths, technical packaging and workwear.


Test setup

The laser test was carried out on a eurolaser XL-1600 CO₂ laser cutting machine with 60 W laser power. Thanks to the vacuum table, no additional material fixation was required. The objective was precise, contactless cutting with clean edges and no post-processing.

Result

Evolon® demonstrated excellent laser cutting performance. The cut edges were precise and clean, with no fraying or residues. Contactless processing prevented material distortion and allowed a high degree of flexibility in contour design. Tool changes and post-processing were completely eliminated.
