Laser Test: PET films

Laser cutting of specialised plastic films

Material

The tested films from Kimoto are high-quality polyester films specifically developed for industrial applications such as printing, electronics and optical coatings. They are characterised by high dimensional stability, transparency, chemical resistance and a wide range of surface finishes – excellently suitable for technical precision applications.

Tested materials:

  • ElastoDur Gloss Clear ED-G-175960
  • ElastoDur Matte Textured ED-AG70-175069
  • Prosave Antibacterial Mat 125 SQHM 960
  • Prosave Antibacterial Clear 12 SQHC 1 960
  • Prosave 50SQ02S
  • 100 SXE Lightup Film
  • Carbonfeather 100X2B

Test setup

The tests were carried out on a eurolaser M-800 laser cutting machine with a 60 W CO₂ laser. The optional Shuttle Table System was used to significantly increase productivity through parallel loading and unloading. The requirements focused on precise cutting without thermal deformation, smooth cutting edges with consistently high quality – even in serial production.

Result

The Kimoto PET films were processed precisely and gently using the eurolaser machine. The cutting edges were smooth, clean and free from burrs or scorch marks. Thanks to the contactless laser process, the surface quality of the PET films was fully preserved – optimal for subsequent processing steps.
