Laser cutting of sun protection textiles
Material
Sattler SUN-TEX manufactures durable sun protection textiles made from solution-dyed branded acrylic. The LUMERA range stands out with vibrant colours and high resistance to soiling. VALORA is a lightweight, waterproof fabric. TWILIGHT offers flame-retardant, PVC-free solutions for modern visual and sun protection. ELEMENTS combines UV protection with a robust structure, making it ideal for indoor and outdoor use. All fabrics provide high comfort, reliable UV protection and a wide range of design options.
Test setup
The test was carried out on a eurolaser 3XL-3200 laser cutting machine with 450 W laser power and an integrated Conveyor System. The recommended laser power was 60 W. The objective was distortion-free, contour-accurate cutting with clean, sealed cut edges. The test criteria also included the processing of elastic fabrics, lint- and residue-free cutting quality, and high precision for delicate contours.
Result
All tested Sattler SUN-TEX fabrics achieved flawless results and were therefore awarded the rating “excellently suitable”. The cut edges were smooth, lint- and fray-free, even with delicate contours. Contactless laser cutting prevented distortion, even with elastic materials. Large formats could be processed directly from the roll without any issues. The consistently high cutting quality without tool wear makes this process particularly efficient.
