Laser test: PALStex® laminated fabric based on Cordura®

Laser cutting of high-performance materials for protective equipment


Material

PALStex® is a durable laminate based on Cordura®, specifically developed for use in personal protective equipment (PPE). It withstands extreme climatic conditions – from severe cold to high humidity – without material breakage or delamination. The combination of robustness, temperature resistance and tear strength makes it ideal for applications in military, police and outdoor operational environments. PALStex® is excellently suitable for laser-based carrying systems, as the cut edges are automatically sealed during laser cutting, resulting in particularly high tear resistance.


Test setup

The test was carried out on an L-1200 laser cutting system with a 200 W CO₂ laser and an integrated Conveyor System. The material was processed automatically from the roll. In addition to precise cutting, permanent markings were produced by laser engraving.

Result

PALStex® could be cut with high precision and demonstrated excellent edge quality. The thermal effect of the laser sealed the cut areas, resulting in high tear resistance – ideal for load-bearing systems subject to high stress. The material showed no scorch marks or signs of delamination. Even delicate geometries were produced cleanly.

Laser test: DeliComp®

Laser cutting of thermoplastic prepregs


Material

DeliComp® is a thermoplastic composite material reinforced with high-strength yarns such as glass fibre, basalt or aramid. A special infusion process gives the material excellent mechanical properties while remaining lightweight, stable and easy to process. Typical applications include structural reinforcements, splinter protection or inserts for injection-moulded parts, particularly in the automotive industry and the construction sector.


Test setup

The laser test was carried out on a eurolaser M-800 laser cutting system with a CO₂ laser output of 200 watts. The focus was on precise contour cutting and clean edge quality, without thermal damage to the material structure.

Result

DeliComp® could be cut very well. Laser processing enabled precise, smooth cut edges without fraying. Even complex geometries could be produced reproducibly and without tools.

Laser test: Deliflame® FR 150

Laser cutting of flame-retardant technical textiles


Material

Deliflame® FR is a Cordura®-based material with a flame-retardant effect achieved through a PU coating. This property, combined with high stability and tear resistance, makes the fabric an ideal material for all types of protective equipment. It is extremely hard-wearing and therefore excellently suitable for demanding fields of application.


Test setup

The test was carried out on a eurolaser L-1200 laser cutting system with a CO₂ laser output of 200 watts and an integrated Conveyor System. The material was processed automatically from the roll. The objective was precise cutting with clean, lint-free edges as well as testing laser-based engraving for permanent markings.

Result

Deliflame® FR could be cut without any issues. Laser processing produced clean, thermally sealed cut edges without fraying. Even fine contours could be produced with high precision and repeat accuracy. In addition, markings were applied by laser engraving as well as using the Label Module and Ink Printer Module.

Laser cutting of Cordura® fabrics


Material

Delinova® is an extremely durable textile with high tear strength and abrasion resistance. It is water-, oil- and dirt-repellent and waterproof on the reverse side. Typical applications include backpacks, carrying systems, motorcycle clothing and ballistic protective vests. The material is durable, easy to care for and complies with OEKO-TEX® Standard 100.


Test setup

The test was carried out using a eurolaser L-1200 cutting system with a 200-watt CO₂ laser and an integrated Conveyor System. Delinova® was processed directly from the roll, ensuring efficient and reliable operation. In addition to precise, fray-free cutting, the use of marking modules for material identification was also tested.

Result

Delinova® could be cut with high precision and clean results. Laser processing produced smooth, lint-free cut edges without material deformation or fraying, making it ideal for subsequent processing steps. Even complex contours could be produced reliably. The tested marking modules enabled direct marking on the material.
