100% recycled acrylic in laser test
Laser cutting of Green Cast®
Green Cast® is an acrylic glass made from 100% recycled material. It is therefore an interesting product for us, especially from an ecological point of view. In coordination with the manufacturer MADREPERLA S.p.A., we have subjected Green Cast® to a cutting test on our laser systems.

Properties of Green Cast®:
- Unlike glass, robust and more shatterproof
- Brilliant optical effect and translucent
- Noble effect due to polished cut edges
- Weather resistant and UV stable
The goal of the laser test:
Burr-free, clean and precise cutting edges - identical to conventional acrylic glass
We have tested different variants of Green Cast® for processing with our laser cutters. In consultation, attention was paid to the following requirements.
- Crystal clear, smooth cut edges without post-processing
- Burr-free cut edges
- Filigree cuts without material breakage
- Machining with protective film
The used test setup
Table concept:Raster plate
A special absorption surface reduces the reflection of excess laser energy to a minimum.
Recommended laser power: 100-450 watts
Depending on material thickness and processing speed, we recommend different laser powers.


Test result:
Green Cast® can be cut excellently with the laser in all tested variants
In our test, we tested both transparent and colored variants of Green Cast® in a thickness of 3-5 mm. In all tests, we were able to achieve flawless cutting results and therefore award the following rating for the cutting ability: Outstandingly suitable.
PMMA has the property of being endlessly recyclable without losing its typical properties. Green Cast® therefore offers the possibility of making production more sustainable without having to forego the excellent properties of acrylic.
Overall, we can give a clear recommendation for the laser processing of Green Cast® acrylic.
