Rohde & Schwarz GmbH & Co. KG

From a 2-man lab to a global group

When you think about products in the mobile, broadcasting and electronics sector, various challenges always come to mind. Rohde & Schwarz addresses these consistently.

Quality, innovation and security

The electronics company, headquartered in Munich, has been established on the market for over 75 years. In its four business fields of test and measurement, broadcasting, secure communications and radiomonitoring and radiolocation, it is one of the leading suppliers worldwide. With constant growth, the company has now developed as the world's leading manufacturer of wireless communications and EMC test and measurement equipment as well as terrestrial TV transmitters.

In over 70 countries, approximately 9300 qualified and dedicated employees ensure that Rohde & Schwarz is still at the forefront every day. This led to a turnover of 1.9 billion euros in the fiscal year from July 2012 to June 2013. Environmental protection also belongs to their sustainable management concept. This means that special attention is paid to the environmentally sound management of natural resources and minimising environmental impact.

In implementing these objectives and in the manufacture of quality products, Rohde & Schwarz have a eurolaser laser cutting system to hand, amongst other things. With the help of the laser, their high standards of quality are easily maintained. The advantages of laser processing have a tangible effect on the work of their staff and the quality of their products.

To the laser system M-800

Using laser beams, they cut spacers out of polyurethane at their factory in Teisnach in the Bavarian Forest. Polyurethane is a plastic material with very versatile properties. The spacers are later installed into electronic devices, meaning that 100% precision and cleanliness are essential for these workpieces. Where once they reached for the punch and blade, now they use a laser. Thanks to the focussed light, perfect cuts, high levels of precision and clean and lint-free edges are now part of their everyday work, without any post-processing. Thanks to the excellent work of the M-800, soiling and short-circuits caused by lint in the electronic devices are a thing of the past.

The ongoing development within the company, as well as their sense of order, cleanliness, high level of flexibility, streamlines processes and reliable deliveries have already won Rohde & Schwarz awards. This led to the Teisnach factory being selected as the factory of the year in the category of ‘Outstanding Small Series Production’ in 2010. The award was presented by business magazine ‘Produktion’ in collaboration with consulting firm A.T. Kearney. Since 1992, this comparison has been considered the toughest and most traditional benchmark competition for German manufacturing companies.
