Laser cutting of RENOLIT GORCELL

RENOLIT GORCELL is a sandwich sheet material with a hexagonal honeycomb structure. Depending on the application, the honeycomb core is combined with various surface materials. RENOLIT GORCELL is used, for example, in the manufacture of components for furniture production or in the automotive industry.

The goal of the laser test

Clean, burr-free cuts without damage to the material surface

We tested a selection of different RENOLIT GORCELL variants from Renolit for processing with our laser cutters. In consultation with Renolit, the following requirements of the processors were taken into account:

Precise, burr-free cut without deformations or dents
Exact corners without visible over-cut or marks on the edges

Damage-free material surfaces without any residue
No residual particles or chips on the machine after cutting

The test setup: Static system with 400 watts laser

Test result:

Up to 15 mm thickness honeycomb sheets can be cut with excellent results

We have extensively tested the six variants of RENOLIT GORCELL and were able to establish perfect cutting quality for four materials. For the remaining two materials, a easily removable film of smoke settles on the underside of the material from a thickness of 15 mm, which would have to be removed in a further work step. Apart from this, the cut edges all exhibit excellent quality. Vacuum formation on our Honeycomb table concept ensures good material fixation without additional efforts for the operator. Overcuts in the corners, breakage and waste are completely avoided. Overall, we have achieved consistently high cutting quality without tool wear.
