Laser technology in the textile industry

Founded in the year 1918 Seidenweberei Güsken GmbH & Co. KG is today one of the world’s leading manufacturers of jacquard woven ties and waistcoats made of silk, polyester, wool and mixed fabric. Cornel Güsken took over sole management of the company in the year 1999 successfully bringing his many years of experience in the textile industry into the company. Now in its third generation the silk weaving specialist has responded to the changed market conditions by creating a completely new business unit with its digital textile printing shop.

Digital printing in the “artido” business unit

The rising demand for customised printed photo canvases with individual motifs was what led to the creation of the “artido!“ business unit in the year 2005. Clients are able to upload their own digital photos via the artido! homepage, select the size of the motif and within a very short time receive their own individual canvas. The image data are printed in a digital printing process with 720 dpi. The special canvases were developed expressly for this technology. The outstanding beauty of their textile character, a glare-free surface and brilliant colours make them extremely impressive. The high degree of light-fastness has even been certified by the Krefeld Textilforschungsinstitut (Textile Research Institute). Another feature that distinguishes them for the competition is the healthy production process that uses no solvent based inks. They have been awarded the Öko-Tex certificate and are therefore suitable for use in living and sleeping areas. In addition to photo canvases the “artido!” business unit also offers a large number of photo products ranging from cushions, bed linen, shower curtains, seat cubes, panel curtains, table sets and on right through to posters, cups and iPhone covers.

Rapid growth thanks to innovative ideas

Seidenweberei Güsken uses a number of state-of-the-art machines to produce its diverse range of textile products. This ensures high quality and the flexibility needed to respond quickly to customer demands. The machine park includes a laser system from eurolaser. Equipped with the conveyor system it is ideally suited for the accurate cutting of textiles. The printed textiles are produced with laser for both corporate as well as private clients. Güsken reaps the benefits here from the advantages of laser technology. Because freely selectable contour shapes and smooth non-fraying cut edges mean there is no longer any need for costly post processing. This has a great impact on the cost and time factor.
